As Latin Music explodes worldwide, Chinese superstar G.E.M plans release of Spanish-language album in partnership with Warner Music Asia

Spanish language music’s global success story gets bigger by the day.

We confirmed in April that Latin music surpassed $1 billion in recorded music revenues in the United States in 2022 and claimed an 8% market share of streaming revenues in the US, too.

And as you read this, positions No.1 through to No.5 on the Spotify Global Top 50 Chart are all Spanish-language songs.

Latin Music’s rise has also caught the attention of K-Pop giant HYBE, with many suspecting that the company could target M&A opportunities in Latin Music with a reported new round of funding.

And now, amidst the continued global rise of Latin Music, we learned over the weekend that Chinese Superstar G.E.M, one of the top-selling female artists in China, has partnered with Warner Music Asia to release a full-length Spanish-language album called, Revelación.

Warner says that the new project marks the first time ever that a Mandopop artist has released a full-length Spanish-language album.

The album, which has been “infused” with Spanish-language influences according to the announcement, “is a fresh take” on G.E.M’s Mandarin-language album Revelation 《啓示錄》.

Warner says that the Chinese version of Revelation “has been highly popular in South America”.

According to G.E.M., “After receiving support from South America for my Chinese album Revelation, I taught myself Spanish and wrote the entire [new] album by myself.”

Warner Music Asia Co-President Chris Gobalakrishna says that Warner Music Asia will be collaborating with Warner’s teams in Spain and Latin America to support G.E.M. on the new release.

G.E.M is amongst the most streamed female Chinese singers on Spotify, and also holds the record for the most viewed music video amongst all Chinese artists on YouTube.

“After receiving support from South America for my Chinese album Revelation, I taught myself Spanish and wrote the entire album by myself.”

G.E.M.

G.E.M. said: “I am delighted to release my first Spanish album. It has been an incredible journey working on this project as I do not speak Spanish, but I was determined to fulfill a prophecy that was made to me ten years ago that one day I would sing in the language.

“After receiving support from South America for my Chinese album Revelation, I taught myself Spanish and wrote the entire album by myself.

“Revelación is a precious revelation I received from God, and I am excited to partner with Warner Music to share my new songs with people around the world.”

“We are very delighted to collaborate with G.E.M. on her debut Spanish album and support her as she ventures into the Latin music market.”
