Apple Music has poached longtime BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra Producer Carlene Morlese.
According to her LinkedIn profile, Morlese joined the music streaming service this month as Artist Relations, UK, Apple Music.
MBW understands that Morlese will be based in London and will be working with the UK Music team, as well as with Natasha Lynch (Artist Relations), Zane Lowe (Apple Music’s Global Creative Director) and Head of Content Larry Jackson, in Los Angeles.
At the BBC, Morlese produced shows across 1Xtra and Radio 1 for the likes of DJ Target, Adele Roberts, Reece Parkinson and MistaJam.
The producer also worked on two specials for 1Xtra surrounding the death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.
In addition, Morlese produced specialist shows such as Charlie Sloth’s Radio 1 & 1Xtra Rap Show and DJ Target’s Friday and Saturday night shows.
She also worked on production for former BBC taste-making hip-hop radio DJ Charlie Charlie ‘s Fire in the Booth for a number of years, accoriding to LinkedIn.
MBW broke the news back in October 2018 that Sloth was leaving the BBC to join Apple Music and would be taking his Fire In the Booth series with him.
In January 2019, details of Sloth’s new Beats 1 show were officially announced in an interview with Zane Lowe.
Other BBC Talent to have left the network for jobs at Apple Music include Zane Lowe, who quit his presenting role at BBC Radio 1 in 2015, taking four BBC producers with him.
In June 2018 MBW reported that Apple Music had hired one of BBC radio’s key editorial music executives in the UK, Ryan Newman, who was previously Editor of 1Xtra.
Morlese joined the BBC in 2012 as a Trainee Assistant Producer.
