9 out of the Top 10 most viewed videos released on YouTube so far this year were non-English language songs

In February we reported how YouTube is the driving force behind English-language music losing its stranglehold on global pop charts.

This week brings further evidence of this trend.

YouTube has released its Top 10 most viewed videos released in 2019 so far and only one out of 10 songs is completely sung in English, with Spanish language music dominating the chart (see below).

In total, five out of the Top 10 are Spanish language songs, while two originated in South Korea, two in India and two in the US, although one of those (Nicky Jam X Ozuna Te Robaré Video Oficial at No.10) is performed in Spanish.

The most viewed music video of 2019 so far is Con Calma by Daddy Yankee, which has been watched over 1.16 billion times.

In second place is Secreto by Anuel AA and Karol G also from Peurto Rico, which has racked up 729 million views.

The third most-viewed video (557 million) is Rowdy Baby by Dhanush, Sai Pallavi from India.

At No.4 is Con Altura by Rosalia, J Balvin ft. El Guincho with 499m views.

Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings (the one video featuring 100% English language lyrics) was the fifth most-watched video on YouTube this year so far with 484m views.

The two K Pop tracks featuring in the Top 10 were Kill This Love by Blankpink at No.6 with 470m views and Boy With Luv by superstars BTS and Halsey (441m views).

The two Bollywood tracks were Rowdy Baby by Dhanush and Sai Pallavi at No.3 with 557m views, with Vaaste Song by Dhvani Bhanushali the ninth-most watch video on the platform with 411m views.Music Business Worldwide
