Building on its Thursday Night Football broadcasts on Prime Video, Amazon is launching a new weekly show, this time focusing on live music performances in a series of shows to be hosted by Grammy-winning hip-hop icon 2 Chainz.

The series called Amazon Music Live will go online Thursdays at 9 pm PDT after Thursday Night Football on Prime Video beginning next week, October 27.

Artists will perform their latest releases in live-streamed shows from Los Angeles, Amazon Music announced on Monday (October 17).

“With Amazon Music Live, we’ve created a new, can’t-miss series for fans to experience the most exciting new music together. For artists, this show represents a massive new stage to share their music with fans after Thursday Night Football—the biggest game of the week, airing live on Prime Video,” Amazon Music said.

The first three shows will feature Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, and Kane Brown.

Lil Baby will be performing tracks from his recently released album, It’s Only Me, on October 27, and a week after that, three-time Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion will be the featured artist, performing tracks off her new album, Traumazine. Kane Brown will be gracing week three of the show with songs from his new album Different Man and more.

The series will be hosted by American rapper 2 Chainz, who won a Grammy in 2017 for Best Rap Performance for No Problem with Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne.

2 Chainz will also be interviewing every featured artist on the show during Thursday Night Football shoulder programming.

“Every Thursday night, I’m bringing the biggest and the brightest stars in music to the Amazon Music Live stage in Los Angeles,” 2 Chainz said.

“We have the people that are influencing the culture and have carved their own unique path in music, like Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, and Kane Brown. Amazon Music Live is the only place to be for the official Thursday turn up!”

Every performance will be filmed in front of a live audience and live events company DICE will facilitate the in-person event by invitation only.

Fans will be able to stream Amazon Music Live online and stream them on-demand for a limited time.

“Whether you’re a sports fan waiting for the first football game of the week, or a music fan staying up late to hear the latest drop from your favorite artist, Thursday is the biggest night for entertainment.”

Kirdis Postelle, Global Head of Artist Marketing of Amazon Music, said: “Whether you’re a sports fan waiting for the first football game of the week, or a music fan staying up late to hear the latest drop from your favorite artist, Thursday is the biggest night for entertainment.”

The latest move comes as Amazon continues to expand its offerings to compete with rivals like Apple in the subscription-based music space.

Amazon Music’s subscriber count is not publicly available, but in January 2020, the company noted that it had “more than 55 million customers globally.” That was after the company started offering free streaming without a Prime membership in November 2019.

Amazon’s Vice President of Music Steve Boom told the Financial Times in January 2020 that “nearly all” of its subscribers at the time were paying users.

“Amazon doesn’t talk numbers that much… We felt like getting to this level of scale was something worth talking about,” Boom told the FT at the time.Music Business Worldwide
