Peermusic promotes Mary Megan Peer to Deputy CEO

Independent publisher peermusic has promoted Mary Megan Peer to Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

Mary Megan represents the third generation of the Peer family’s executive leadership of the company, which has been family-run since it was founded by her grandfather Ralph S. Peer in 1928.

She will maintain a direct report to her father Ralph Peer II, who oversees the publisher’s global network of music publishing companies.

Based in New York, Mary Megan Peer is responsible for the Asia Pacific region, Japan, Brazil and developing territories as well as business development on a global basis.

The exec advocated for peermusic’s unified approach to regional digital licensing, and the active tracking of those deals using the firm’s proprietary copyright, royalties and tracking system.

Outside peermusic, Mary Megan serves as the youngest member of the Board of ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers).

“Over the time I’ve worked with Mary Megan she’s been invaluable in bringing her considerable analytic expertise to bear on the novel challenges presented by the mobile and online world to the benefit of her peermusic colleagues and indeed to all of our composer community,” said Ralph Peer II.

“She has proved her leadership skills by expanding peermusic’s creative reach through her relationships with new composers and business partners worldwide as well as by heading a number of internal initiatives helping keep peermusic in the forefront of technological advances.

“Mary Megan wants to see people succeed, and she works very, very hard to do what she can to make that happen. That exemplifies the ideals that peermusic is built on. I’m very happy to congratulate Mary Megan on earning this well-deserved promotion.

Mary Megan Peer said: “I’m looking forward to continuing peermusic’s tradition of forging long-term relationships with songwriters, while maintaining high levels of client service backed by a global network of offices.

“From peermusic’s early copyrights by The Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers to records on the latest Justin Bieber and Beyoncé albums, we take pride in representing enduring talent. In addition to our incredible roster of writers, I am lucky to work with one of the strongest and experienced executive teams in music publishing who share my commitment to our global footprint,”

Mary Megan Peer’s recent work includes overseeing the 2015 opening of peermusic’s first office in Beijing – a moment that saw the firm become the first global independent publisher in mainland China.

She had previously established a successful joint-venture partnership in China, which made peermusic the first Western independent publishing company to directly sign Chinese writers.

Peer has actively fostered opportunities for the company’s Western writers to collaborate with local writers in Japan and South Korea, resulting in charting releases in both countries.

In addition, Mary Megan has served as Managing Director of peermusic’s Buenos Aires office, and played a key role in some of the company’s acquisitions including the David Foster and Ventura Music Group catalogues.

Before joining peermusic, Mary Megan Peer worked on Wall Street at Piper Jaffrey and Jefferies.Music Business Worldwide
