Imagem signs global deal with Berlin’s Steam Music

Barely a month after it announced that it was no longer for sale, independent publisher Imagem Music has signed it first significant deal: a worldwide co-publishing partnership with Berlin-based management and publishing company Steam Music.

Steam Music was founded in 2013 by Andrew Campbell, who was also the co-founder of the promotion agency Gordeon Music Promotion, founded in 1992.

Some of the first signings to fall under the new partnership between Imagem and Steam include Marstal:Lidell from Denmark, Tyred Eyes from Sweden, Omri Vitis & the Bells from Israel and Who’s Panda from Switzerland.

Andrew Campbell, Steam Music Management & Publishing / Gordeon Music Promotion, said:

“I am very happy to become a member of the IMAGEM Music family. With Jens-Markus Wegener, MD of IMAGEM Music and also my personal friend, I found a very strong and powerful partner to keep on developing our promising and exciting catalog of international copyrights.”

Jens-Markus Wegener, MD of Imagem Music GmbH: “We are very proud of the cooperation with Andrew, because of his creative vision in building up new bands.

“Artist development will be also in 2015 one of our core activities together with Andrew as our new partner. As one of the most successful PR agents in Germany, Andrew knows already in the beginning, which acts will hopefully be in the future successful.”

In April last year, Imagem CEO André de Raaff strongly suggested that the company was for sale, mentioning a pricetag of US $650 million.

BMG was believed to be interested in buying Imagem Music, which operates alongside the Imagem Group’s theatrical (Rodgers and Hammerstein) and classical (Boosey & Hawkes) divisions.

But in mid-December Imagem has confirmed that it was no longer for sale, and concentrating on “growing [our] activities further, including through new acquisitions”.

The company said it had received “great interest from many parties, either trade parties or new (financial) parties, to acquire the whole Imagem Group or specific parts”.

Imagem Music, founded in 2008, is currently enjoying a No.1 around the world with Uptown Funk!, from its star client Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars.Music Business Worldwide
