Fast-growing Entertainment One Music hires Meg Symsyk in international role

Fresh from celebrating a Billboard 200 No.1 album, Entertainment One (eOne) Music has appointed Meg Symsyk to the newly-created role of Vice President, International Marketing & Management.

Best known for its film and TV production work, Entertainment One is building out its music rights catalogue – which currently includes more than 45,000 tracks.

In January it acquired Americana/folk specialist Dualtone Records, home of The Lumineers.

The band’s latest album on Dualtone, Cleopatra, topped the Billboard 200 on Friday (April 22) – selling 125,000 equivalent album units.

In March, eOne acquired independent Canadian recording, publishing and artist management company Last Gang.

The move was predominantly a vehicle to draft in Last Gang founder Chris Taylor, who is now CEO of eOne Music.

In addition to his label and management work, Taylor is a veteran music lawyer, whose legal practice Taylor Klein Oballa LLP has represented Drake, Nelly Furtado and Avril Lavigne.

Taylor has personally hired Meg Symsyk, who has spent the last eight years in artist management at Toronto’s SRO Management/Anthem Entertainment Group – primarily handled marketing/media for Rush globally and managing punk rock icon Brody Dalle.

In her new role, Symsyk will oversee artist brand marketing efforts on a global basis for eOne Music, including the artist roster acquired with the Last Gang deal – label signings MSTRKRFT, Death From Above 1979, plus management clients Arkells, Jack Novak and Lights.

“I’m so excited to have Meg on board for this next chapter for our music division. She is a dynamic personality with incredible marketing instincts, an unparalleled drive, and international relations that are going to absolutely benefit both the record label and management rosters,” said Taylor.

Symsyk commented: “I am thrilled to be joining one of the world’s leading entertainment companies, especially at this exciting time with Chris at the helm of eOne Music.

“Chris has always had such a prodigious vision, having signed, developed, and managed so many amazing artists over the years.”

“With its recently-acquired labels including Dualtone Music Group and Last Gang, eOne is redefining itself in the music industry as an indie with unparalleled global reach and scale.”

Prior to joining SRO, Symsyk held posts at Universal Music Canada, initially in radio promotion and then as Director of Marketing where she handled a diverse roster of artists on various label imprints including Interscope, Geffen, A&M, 604 Records & Roadrunner in Canada – working on campaigns for artists such as Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, Nelly Furtado, Gwen Stefani, and Rufus Wainwright.

In addition to her eOne responsibilities, Symsyk will continue her working relationship with SRO & Rush (Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart) in the handling of their media.

She will also maintain her industry executive board positions as the President, Music Managers Forum Canada (MMF) and Vice-Chair of Factor.

Entertainment One has offices in Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Spain, the Benelux, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

In addition to Dualtone and Last Gang, its sub-labels include gospel brand Light Records and Broadway specialist DRG Records.

Its label roster includes top-selling rapper The Game and former Destiny’s Child member and gospel artist Michelle Williams.Music Business Worldwide
