Music rights company Downtown has stepped up as a Platinum Sponsor of the forthcoming A&R Awards, which take place at The Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel on Wednesday November 2nd.

Downtown is best-known for its global music publishing operation, but also runs a growing neighbouring rights division, amongst other services. It has offices in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and London.

The company’s catalogue includes songwriters and artists including The Beatles, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, The Kinks, Hans Zimmer, Bruce Springsteen, Mötley Crüe, One Direction, Hardwell, Santigold, and Carla Bruni.

Downtown officially landed in the UK in May last year when it acquired the respected Eagle-i Music.

The company is supporting the Songwriter Of The Year category at the A&R Awards, which are being presented by MBW in association with Abbey Road Studios.

The finalists for Songwriter Of The Year supported by Downtown Music Publishing are:

  • Camille Purcell
  • Cass Lowe
  • Jonny Coffer
  • Levi Lennox
  • Nick Gale (aka Digital Farm Animals)

Roberto Neri, Downtown UK Managing Director, said: “Downtown is honoured to sponsor the Songwriter Award.

“Publishers exist solely because we are privileged to work with and champion the art of songwriting.

“In this streaming era, our vision is to reassert a wider mainstream recognition of the Songwriter and their invaluable talents.”

Downtown’s technology platform, Songtrust, powers global royalty collection from over 100 countries and more than 20,000 unique income sources worldwide.

The A&R Awards in association with Abbey Road Studios is less than a week away, and will recognise excellence in UK A&R activity over the past year.

Alongside Downtown, the ceremony is being supported by PRS For Music, TAPE London, Music + Sport and more – as well as event partner Abbey Road Studios.

There will be awards handed out for labels, publishers, managers, producers, songwriters, individual executives and artists – all judged by senior expert figures from across the global music business.

In addition to Artist Loyalty and A&R Icon gongs, the event – presented by Music Business Worldwide – will feature an extra special award dedicated to the late Sir George Martin.

The Sir George Martin Award will recognise an A&R executive with a track record of fostering meaningful artist and songwriter relationships, who has helped push artists to fresh heights of success – and who continues to play a key role in contemporary hit-making today.

The award cannot be pitched for, with the recipient decided by MBW in conjunction with the Sir George Martin estate.Music Business Worldwide
