Deezer US boss quits for a vape company as new hires are revealed

Deezer‘s US boss Tyler Goldman has left to head up vape company PAX Labs as the streaming service appoints a number of new hires.

Goldman joined Deezer as Chief Executive of North America in 2013.

Over the last three years, he’s helmed an initial push into the US via partnerships with Bose and Sonos speakers, as well as telecoms firm Cricket.

In July, the French-born streaming firm brought its service to all US users, but without a freemium tier.

Goldman was appointed CEO at PAX Labs, which produces vaporisers and e-cigarettes, last week.

“Tyler Goldman left Deezer to pursue a new challenge and we wish him much success in the next chapter of his career,” said Deezer in a statement.

“We continue to have a strong team in place in the US and look forward to growing our presence here with the most personalized music discovery platform.”

“We continue to have a strong team in place in the US and look forward to continuing to grow our presence here with the most personalized music discovery platform. New leadership changes will be announced shortly.”

Those leadership changes have now been confirmed, and include the appointment of Jorge Rincon as Vice President of North America and Phil Moore as Vice President of Southern Europe and MEA.

Rincon will be responsible for overseeing all operations in North America and Canada, including the expansion of Deezer’s partner network.

Prior to Deezer, Rincon was the Director of Digital Products and Business Development for international telecommunications and media company, Millicom.

He’s also held the positions of COO of Adsmovil, where he led the US Hispanic and Latin America Markets, CEO of LatCel and COO of US and Latin American mobile portal, StarMedia Networks.

Moore will implement new processes to drive business efficiencies in Southern Europe and MEA.

He joins the brand from Huawei Technologies, where he managed the transformation of the o2 Telefonica business, working with network providers and retailers including Vodafone, Palm and Microsoft.

“We are delighted to welcome both Jorge Rincon and Phil Moore at a time when we are heavily focused on continuing to build and strengthen both the business and the brand.”

Deezer’s Chief Executive Officer, Hans-Holger Albrecht, commented: “We are delighted to welcome both Jorge Rincon and Phil Moore at a time when we are heavily focused on continuing to build and strengthen both the business and the brand.

“Both regions offer us new opportunities which can be maximised through leveraging the experience of both of these senior leaders.

“I know each will be integral to driving and leading our growth and to taking Deezer to the next level.”

Rincon said: “The US music streaming market is an extremely interesting and competitive space and one that is ripe for the taking.

“Deezer has a huge opportunity to expand its offering and grow its user base and I am thrilled to be the person who will be responsible for driving that forward.”

Moore added: ”I’m excited to be joining Deezer at this pivotal point in our journey.

“Not only is there huge potential for growing the brand, but there is a real appetite for another player to enter these markets that can bring something new to the table. I have every confidence that we will succeed.”
