Cooking Vinyl launches £30k industry fund and more for 30th birthday celebrations

Independent music house Cooking Vinyl has announced plans to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a range of activity, which includes a new industry fund, a collaboration with PledgeMusic, a series of live events and a new book chronicling the history of the company.

Founded in 1986 by Martin Goldschmidt (pictured) and his original business partner Pete Lawrence, Cooking Vinyl’s recent roster has included artists such as Billy Bragg, Marilyn Manson, Richard Ashcroft, Madness, James, Frank Black, Gary Numan, Amanda Palmer, The Pretty Reckless, Suzanne Vega, Alison Moyet, The Cult, Lissie, Royksopp and The Prodigy among others.

To acknowledge its first three decades Cooking Vinyl has teamed up with PledgeMusic to launch a special 30th Anniversary campaign offering music fans the chance to buy a range of exclusive items including a limited edition 30th Anniversary box set, which will be available on CD and vinyl with 70 tracks on each format and 32-page booklet.

This will be released on November 25th 2016. Other merchandise will be available.

As part of the PledgeMusic campaign, Cooking Vinyl is also launching a £30k groundbreaking industry fund, with the aim of giving something back to artists, entrepreneurs and visionaries in the music industry.

Under this new, bi-annual initiative Cooking Vinyl is investing an initial £30,000 to help artists needing assistance with various aspects of their development, entrepreneurs seeking seed capital for groundbreaking new ideas and those who want ‘to use the power of music to make the world a better place’.

Unlike other funds that are simply prizes or one-off payments, this is a loan based initiative that will encourage the recipients to pay back into the scheme when they are able to do so with the aim of creating something that can be made available to each new generation of artists, entrepreneurs and visionaries.

Interested parties will submit an initial application for funding via PledgeMusic who will oversee the process. This will be a global campaign open to all and successful finalists will then be invited to make a final pitch at Cooking Vinyl’s London HQ or via Skype if overseas.

Also part of these 30th anniversary celebrations is a new book about the history of Cooking Vinyl planned for the end of the year. Written by acclaimed music journalist and author Hanspeter Kuensler this new book will be available via PledgeMusic and Unbound, the specialist crowdfunding platform for new literary projects.

Full details about the book, a number of exciting events taking place around its publication and how people can get involved in the Unbound campaign will be announced shortly.

The company has also announced a series of intimate live shows in London during December. Taking place at The Lexington in London on December 5th, 6th and 7th respectively these shows will feature past and present Cooking Vinyl artists with lots of surprise guests.

Full details of the line-ups for each night will be announced in the near future.

All profits from the commercial activities surrounding Cooking Vinyl’s 30th Anniversary will be donated to charity.

The company recently asked its staff to suggest suitable causes and to vote on a shortlist with three organisations chosen to be equal recipients as follows:

The HOPE not hate campaign was founded in 2004 to provide a positive antidote to the politics of hate. The British National Party (BNP) was winning substantial votes and local councilors in our northern towns and traditional anti-racism and anti-fascism was failing.

Nordoff Robbins is the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, dedicated to changing the lives of vulnerable and isolated people.

The Expo will showcase both established and upcoming Palestinian artists to local audiences and key members of the international music industry. The Expo will bring artists and professionals together, in an effort to build mutually beneficial relationships and develop valuable networking opportunities in Palestine.Music Business Worldwide
