BMG’s Thomas Scherer promoted to EVP BMG US Publishing

BMG exec Thomas Scherer, currently EVP of International Writer Services in LA, has been promoted to EVP BMG US Publishing.

Alongside his international work, the exec now has direct responsibility for BMG’s LA and New York-based publishing creative teams.

Scherer’s new role will build on his operational and management responsibilities, and allow the BMG US team to draw on the exec’s network and experience.

The appointment is hot on the heels of Zach Katz being named President, Repertoire & Marketing of BMG US.

“In his understanding of our core values and with his positive energy and ability to inspire others, Thomas is an invaluable member of the BMG team.”

BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said: “We are delighted to promote Thomas Scherer to this new enhanced role.

“In his understanding of our core values and with his positive energy and ability to inspire others, Thomas is an invaluable member of the BMG team.”

Scherer has helped shape BMG’s LA-based Writer Services function, most recently through the development of its SoundLab writers’ camps.

He has contributed to signings and acquisitions in US, Europe, Asia, and Australia, as well as coordinating BMG’s service to professional songwriters around the globe.

Scherer will report to Katz in connection with BMG’s US Publishing activities and continue to report directly to Masuch for his international role.

The publishing exec has more than 30 years experience in the music industry, first as a drummer and music producer in his native Germany, and later with his own label through the old BMG.

After founding his own companies in Germany and Japan, Scherer joined the new BMG in its Berlin head office shortly after its creation in 2008. He relocated to BMG’s LA office in 2014.
