BMG acquires Tipping Music in France, including Ben L’Oncle Soul catalogue

BMG has acquired French publisher Tipping Music, including its catalogue of French urban pop hits from the past years, including ‘A 20 ans’ by Amel Bent.

However, the jewel in the crown of Tipping Music is the catalogue of Ben L’Oncle Soul’s catalogue. The artist emerged in 2009 as one of the biggest annual pop/soul hitmakers in France.

BMG France had already signed a worldwide publishing deal with L’Oncle Soul’s own publishing company (Enchanté) in the past year, which gives BMG the publishing rights to hisfuture work in addition to his back catalog.

L’Oncle Soul’s first release was the Soul Wash EP in 2009 in which his Rhythm & Blues version of the White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ got him significant attention and airplay.

His French-language, self-titled debut album, released on Universal‘s Motown in 2010, went Top 5 and sold 300,000 units in France (3x Platinum). The single “Soul Man” was one of the biggest hits of 2011; it has now become a regular of radio airplay, and is a future standard of French pop.

Ben L’Oncle Soul received the Prix Constantin Award in 2010, the NRJ Music Awards and the Globe de Crystal Award in 2011, plus five Victoires nominations and two Victoires Awards in 2011, and was nominated twice for the MTV Europe Awards in 2010 and 2011.

The song ‘Soul Man’ was awarded Song of the Year at the Victoires Awards in 2011.

His second album, A coup de rêves, was released in August 2014. It debuted at No.1 in the French digital album charts and No.9 in the physical album charts.Music Business Worldwide
