Apple Music’s Cash Money documentary trailer is here…

Last week, the internet – including MBW – got pretty excited about a new tie-up between Cash Money and Apple Music.

The hip-hop label’s CEO Birdman posted an Instagram picture calling the deal a “power move”, and was sure to include the hashtag #BIG BUSINESS.

In that picture was Apple Music‘s go-to exclusives don Larry Jackson, posing with Birdman (pictured).

Both looked rather satisfied about whatever had just been signed, with Birdman excitedly referring to its freshness.

‘It’s official,’ he said, adding the hashtag #CASHMONEYRICHGANG, lest we doubt the lucrative nature of the agreement.

#BIGBUSINESS, hey?

Could this be a label-wide exclusive deal with Cash Money, MBW theorized – a label whose signings include Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Apple Music poster boy Drake?

Or maybe some kind of content development agreement, with Apple laying down cash for new music from Cash Money artists?

One party who probably wouldn’t have been delighted with either outcome is Universal Music Group – Cash Money’s global exclusive distribution partner.

So all’s well that ends well.

Sources from certain companies subsequently told us (and others) this was simply a documentary project, in which Apple Music was making and producing a tell-all piece about Birdman and the history of Cash Money.

And here’s the proof: a trailer released by Apple Music today.

Only thing is… Birdman took the original MBW story speculating this might (might!) be an entire label deal, and stuck it all over his social channels.

He even re-posted the picture of him with Larry Jackson on Instagram, complete with the link to our article.

Probably just a bit of playful hip-hop bragging, of course.

‘Power move’ indeed.

Classic Birdman.

Talented guy, though.

He just signed a deal with Apple to create a documentary (nothing more!)… and then released the trailer within a week.
