Adele’s Hello races to 100m views on YouTube in less than 5 days

Adele‘s Hello appears to have become the second-fastest video to reach 100m YouTube views in history.

The official video to the star’s comeback single hit the Google-owned service via Vevo on Friday (October 23) at 8am GMT.

It reached the 100m milestone at around 2am GMT today – meaning it got there before five full days were up.

In the list of the fastest-ever videos to reach 100m views, that would mean it is second only to Psy’s Gentleman, according to MBW’s calculations.

Miley Cyrus’s Wrecking Ball took six days to hit the figure.

The previous Top 5 are below.

  1. Psy, Gentleman (2013) – 3 days
  2. Miley Cyrus, Wrecking Ball (2013) – 6 days
  3. Kobe vs. Messi, The Selfie Shootout (ad) (2013) – 8 days
  4. Shakira, Can’t Remember To Forget You (2014) – 10 days
  5. Nicki Minaj, Anaconda (2014) – 11 days

As of 7.20am GMT this morning, Hello had topped 106m plays on YouTube.

That’s almost five times its play count on Spotify, which currently sits at 22.4m.

Meanwhile, Hello is on course to become the fastest-selling single in the UK this year.

The XL-issued track is at No. 1 in the Official midweek Sales Flash, selling 165,000 units across sales and streams half-way through the chart week – 156,000 of which are downloads.

It’s a similar story in the US, where Hello shifted 450,000 copies in its first 48 hours on sale.
